MANCHESTER — A 50-year-old Manchester man was arrested hours after robbing a TD Bank on Franklin Street on June 24.
Russell Thaxton entered the bank at 300 Franklin Street around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday and wrote a note on a deposit slip claiming he had a gun, according to police.
He passed the note to a teller and fled with cash.
Police used surveillance footage and investigative work to quickly identify Thaxton as the suspect.
Officers found Thaxton later that night near the intersection of Auburn Street and Lincoln Street.
He was taken into custody without incident and found to be carrying a large amount of money.
Police also identified Thaxton as the suspect in an armed robbery at an ATM the previous night.
Officers discovered illegal drugs on Thaxton at the time of his arrest.
Thaxton has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a controlled drug.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Manchester District Court.
