Man arrested for damaging property, assaulting staff at North Hero Island Hospital

ST. JOHNSBURY — A 44-year-old man from Hardwick was arrested following an incident in St. Johnsbury early yesterday morning.

Authorities say they were notified of an individual destroying property at North Hero Island Hospital at around 5:10 a.m.

Police identified the suspect as Aaron Smith.

Police say that Smith had destroyed equipment and walls in the hospital, assaulted staff, and yelled profanities while threatened to fight staff.

Smith was taken into custody at around 5:50 a.m.

At around 1:00 p.m. he was arraigned at Caledonia County Superior Court by the Honorable Judge Michael Kainen.

The court ordered Smith be held on $1,500 bail.

He was transported to NECC in St. Johnsbury.
