Boston police arrest two on firearm, drug charges following investigation

BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s A-7 Drug Control Unit arrested two men on firearm and drug charges Friday night following an ongoing drug investigation in East Boston.

At about 7:48 p.m., officers were surveilling the area of Bayswater Street and Shawsheen Road when they observed a male exit an apartment at 85 St. Andrew Road and interact with an idling motor vehicle.

Suspecting a drug transaction, police stopped the vehicle on 3 Almont Street with the assistance of a marked cruiser.

During the stop, officers conducted a pat frisk of a backpack and discovered a box of ammunition.

A subsequent search revealed one of the men had a Glock 19 with a round chambered and a laser sight attachment concealed in his waistband.

Inside the vehicle, police found approximately $3,079 in cash, 67 various cannabis packages, and additional ammunition.

Adrian Salmoran, 22, of Revere, and Kevin Cartagena, 19, of Winthrop, were arrested.

Salmoran faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a large capacity feeding device, defacement of a firearm serial number, and intent to distribute class C and D drugs.

Cartagena was charged with intent to distribute class D drugs.

Both suspects are set to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
