Man arrested in Swampscott synagogue property damage case

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Police have arrested a man in connection with property damage at a local synagogue last month.

Swampscott Police responded to Congregation Shirat Hayam of the North Shore at 55 Atlantic Avenue on June 30 at approximately 7:31 a.m. on a report of suspicious activity involving a motor vehicle with damage to the property.

Swampscott detectives identified the vehicle and operator through their investigation.

An arrest warrant was issued for Nick Ashtar-Zadeh, of Dracut.

Saugus Police located and arrested Ashtar-Zadeh on the Swampscott warrant.

Ashtar-Zadeh was arraigned at Lynn District Court on charges of malicious destruction of property over $1,200, destruction or threats to destroy a place of worship over $5,000, property damage to intimidate, and civil rights violation.
