GUILDERLAND, NY — Members of the Guilderland Police Department arrested an Albany man on weapons charges following a reported larceny at Crossgates Mall on Thursday.
At approximately 7:50 p.m., members of the Guilderland Police Department’s Retail Interdiction Detail were notified by Crossgates Mall Security of a reported larceny that had occurred at a retail store inside the mall.
Mall security provided officers with descriptions of the suspects and their location within the mall after they were observed leaving the store.
Members of the Retail Interdiction Detail quickly located and made contact with the individuals.
During the investigation, officers observed a handgun in the waistband of the male suspect.
While attempting to detain the male suspect, the male fled on foot.
As officers pursued the suspect, one of the female suspects attempted to interfere with the pursuit.
She was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search of the area, officers recovered a pistol that had been located on the floor of the mall’s Café Court.
The male suspect was subsequently located outside Crossgates Mall by patrol officers and taken into custody.
The male suspect was identified as Abdullah Mcknight, 18, of Albany.
Mcknight was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree (loaded firearm), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree (large capacity ammunition feeding device), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in a Restricted Location and Resisting Arrest.
Mcknight was arraigned in Guilderland Town Court and was remanded to the Albany County Jail.
The female suspect was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile.
In accordance with New York State law, her identity will not be released due to her age.
The juvenile was charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree after she was found to be in possession of a Taser during the incident.
The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian.
She is scheduled to appear in Albany County Probation at a later date.
