WATERVLIET, NY — Watervliet Police have arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in late June.
Officers responded July 1, 2026, to a report of a sexual assault that occurred June 28, 2026, in the early morning hours.
After an investigation, police determined that Juan Sanchez sexually assaulted the victim while she was sleeping.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of 6th Avenue, where Sanchez was located and taken into custody.
Sanchez, 36, of Watervliet, has been charged with rape in the third degree, a class E felony, and forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
