POWNAL, VT — A Pownal man was cited for excessive speed after a trooper clocked him driving nearly 50 mph over the speed limit on June 21.
A trooper with the Vermont State Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Route 7 near Kings Way at approximately 4:11 p.m.
The vehicle was traveling at an imprudent speed well above the posted 50 mph speed limit.
Using doppler sounding radar, the trooper confirmed the vehicle was traveling 98 mph.
A traffic stop was initiated and the operator was identified as Dewight E. Burnell, 22, of Pownal.
Burnell was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Bennington on Aug. 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Burnell was also issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint carrying a waiver fee of $710 and two points.
