Man arrested on drug, DWI charges in Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, NY — New York State Police arrested a 43-year-old man on felony drug possession and DWI charges after he was found asleep in a vehicle along the Thruway on June 21, 2026.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., troopers observed a vehicle parked on the right shoulder of the New York State Thruway (I-95) northbound in the village of Mamaroneck, with the operator and sole occupant asleep in the driver’s seat.

During a welfare check, troopers administered standardized field sobriety tests to Miguel Perez Mendez, of Bronx, which were indicative of intoxication.

He was placed under arrest for DWI.

While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, troopers seized approximately 436.8 grams of cocaine.

Perez Mendez was transported to State Police New Rochelle for processing, where he refused to provide a breath sample.

An additional approximately 0.3 grams of cocaine was located during processing.

Perez Mendez was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation.

He was arraigned in Mamaroneck Village Court and released on his own recognizance pending a future court date.
