LEXINGTON, MA — A Middlesex Superior Court jury has found a Wakefield man guilty of rape and indecent assault and battery following a four-day trial.

James DeVellis, 59, of Wakefield, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 21-year-old male victim who was known to him at his home in Lexington.

In April 2020, DeVellis invited the victim, a close family friend, to his Lexington home to help him clear out furniture and other items before he was set to move out of the home.

At some point during the visit, the victim and DeVellis consumed alcohol and the victim lost consciousness.

While the victim was not conscious, DeVellis removed his clothes and sexually assaulted him.

In April 2022, the victim learned that DeVellis had allegedly committed other sexual assaults on other men, including his own brother.

The victim was also aware that DeVellis had been accused of inappropriate conduct while he was working as an orthopedist at a practice in Woburn and that the conduct resulted in DeVellis giving up his medical license.

After leaving medicine, DeVellis assumed the role of CEO and co-owner of Thompson Square Partners, a commercial real estate company.

The victim reported the 2020 assault to Lexington Police.

DeVellis was arraigned in December 2022.

Sentencing for DeVellis has been scheduled for Monday, June 22 at 2 p.m. in courtroom 530 at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn.
