BINGHAMTON, NY — A Binghamton man was arrested after police responded to a disturbance at the Saratoga Terrace housing complex and later recovered a loaded handgun, authorities said.
Police said officers were called to 60 Saratoga Ave. at about 9:15 a.m. June 10 for a report that a man had displayed a handgun during a disturbance.
Officers determined there were no indications that shots had been fired and no injuries were reported, police said.
A suspect was identified a short time later and was seen in the area by officers at the scene, police said.
The suspect fled on foot and was taken into custody after a short pursuit, according to police.
Police identified him as Dontae S. Bradshaw, 28, of Binghamton.
Investigators determined Bradshaw had violated a court order of protection and had discarded a backpack in an apartment within the complex after the disturbance, police said.
Officers located the backpack, and investigators later obtained a search warrant to examine its contents, according to police.
Inside the backpack, investigators found a loaded 9mm Springfield handgun with a large-capacity magazine, police said.
Bradshaw was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree criminal contempt and third-degree criminal tampering, according to police.
Police said Bradshaw was arraigned June 11 in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
The investigation remains active, police said.
