EXETER, NH — Two men were arrested on driving under the influence charges while police investigated a serious motorcycle crash Tuesday evening on Kingston Road, authorities said.
Exeter police and fire personnel responded at about 5:55 p.m. June 10 to the area of 149 Kingston Road, Route 111, for a report of a serious crash involving a motorcycle, according to police.
The motorcycle operator, a 38-year-old man of Dracut, Massachusetts, suffered serious injuries described as multi-system trauma and was flown by MedFlight to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for treatment, police said.
Police said the preliminary investigation found that the operator was riding a 2018 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special westbound on Route 111 when the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a large rock off the side of the road.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash, police said.
Police said there is no current indication the operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Exeter Fire Department and Kingston Fire Department personnel provided medical care to the operator, transported him to a landing zone and coordinated with MedFlight, police said.
The helicopter landed at the soccer field at Brickyard Pond, according to police.
During the investigation, officers arrested Ryan Huberty, 45, of Burlington, Massachusetts, and Jeffrey Morse, 42, of Salem, on allegations that each was driving under the influence, police said.
Police said both men are friends of the injured operator and were allegedly riding with him before the crash.
Huberty and Morse were each charged with DUI, a Class B misdemeanor, and released on personal recognizance bail, police said.
They are scheduled to appear in 10th Circuit District Court on June 18 at 8:15 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
