BINGHAMTON, NY — Two men were charged after a 19-year-old man was stabbed early June 9 near Court Street and Riverside Street, police said.

Binghamton police said patrol officers were called to the area at about 6 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Police said the victim suffered two significant stab wounds, one to his back and one to his upper leg.

The victim was given aid at the scene and taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police said the victim was in stable condition.

Investigators said two suspects fled the scene in a white sedan before officers arrived.

Police identified one suspect as Christopher D. Ricketts Jr., 19, of Binghamton.

Investigators said Ricketts later was dropped off at a local hospital in the same white sedan and received treatment for a hand laceration.

Using automated license plate recognition technology, investigators identified the vehicle and then the second suspect, Jeremiah W. Coqmard Jr., 18, of Johnson City, police said.

Police said both men were taken into custody and charged with first-degree assault, a Class B violent felony under New York law.

Both were arraigned June 9 in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, police said.

The investigation remains active.
