Woman arrested on felony charge in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, NY — A woman faces felony charges following a domestic incident early Thursday morning.

New Hartford Police Officers responded to a residence on Ney Avenue at approximately 12 a.m. for a reported domestic dispute in progress.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who reported that during a verbal argument, his girlfriend became physically aggressive.

The victim alleged that the suspect scratched his face, damaged his cell phone by breaking the screen, and broke a key off in the ignition of his vehicle as he attempted to leave the residence.

A subsequent Order of Protection check revealed an active temporary Order of Protection in place protecting the victim.

Based on the investigation, officers took Renee Ruffrage, 21, of New Hartford, into custody at the scene.

Ruffrage was transported to the New Hartford Police Department for processing and was charged with two counts of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor; harassment in the second degree, a violation; and criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony.

Following processing, she was transported to the Oneida County Jail to be held for arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Part Court.

Police officers also completed a Domestic Incident Danger Assessment Evaluation in order to assess further protective measures and support available for the victim.
