TANNERSVILLE, PA — A Stroudsburg man faces theft and evidence tampering charges after allegedly taking a cell phone left at a grocery store checkout.
Raymond Gonzalez Jr., 47, was charged in connection with an incident at the Weis store on Route 611.
Police said a victim reported the theft at approximately 6 p.m. on April 20, 2026, stating the phone had been lost earlier that day at the store.
Security footage showed the phone being placed on a self-checkout kiosk, then picked up by Gonzalez, according to Pocono Township Police Department.
The phone was later tracked and located in a storm drain near Gonzalez’s residence, police said.
Gonzalez was charged with theft by unlawful taking, a misdemeanor, and tampering with evidence on May 15, 2026.
