NEW HOLLAND, PA — A 35-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license May 8.
Officer Zachary Crills stopped a Chrysler Town and Country around 6 p.m. in the area of West Main Street and Shirk Road in New Holland Borough after observing an expired Pennsylvania registration.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Crills detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside, according to police.
A license check revealed the driver, Phillip James Hayhurst, of Pennsylvania, had a suspended license and an outstanding criminal warrant from Dauphin County.
Crills evaluated Hayhurst for impairment, including an assessment by a Drug Recognition Expert.
Based on the expert’s findings, Hayhurst was recommended to undergo a blood test due to suspicions of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Pending the results of the toxicology report, Hayhurst will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Crills will file the charges before District Judge Jonathan Heisse.
