DOUGLAS, MA — Three masked men broke into a residence and stole a dirt bike from an attached garage while the occupants were sleeping early Tuesday morning, police said.
The break-in occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m. on May 5.
Shortly after the break-in, one of the suspects was captured on a Flock camera driving the dirt bike with a vehicle following directly behind it, according to police.
The vehicle’s license plate was captured and came back registered out of Worcester.
Further investigation indicated that the registered owner of the vehicle had ties to Webster.
With the assistance of the Webster Police Department, surveillance was conducted throughout the day and a search warrant was executed at a Webster apartment building, where the dirt bike was located.
The suspects were not present at the apartment when the dirt bike was recovered.
On Thursday at approximately 5 p.m., Webster Police located and stopped the suspected vehicle used in the crime.
Webster Police arrested the registered owner, Angelo Cruz, of Worcester, for receiving stolen property.
A second search warrant was executed that evening where evidence was located linking Cruz to the house break and theft of the dirt bike.
As a result of the search, Cruz was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, improper storage of a firearm and reckless endangerment of a child.
Cruz is also being charged by the Douglas Police with breaking and entering in the nighttime and larceny of a motor vehicle.
The investigation remains open and ongoing.
