Two-vehicle crash shuts down Route 7A in Arlington

ARLINGTON, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that shut down Vermont Route 7A on May 10, 2026.

Troopers were notified of the crash at approximately 9:08 p.m. on Vermont Route 7A near Old West Road.

Investigation revealed Horace W. Wells Jr., 68, of Shaftsbury, was traveling south on Vermont Route 7A when he veered off the roadway and collided with a telephone pole.

Hunter D. Joseph, 20, of Manchester, subsequently ran over the knocked-down telephone pole.

Both operators were wearing seat belts and received suspected minor injuries in the crash.

The collision brought down live wires on the roadway, shutting down Vermont Route 7A in the towns of Arlington and Shaftsbury.

Wells was driving a 2014 GMC Acadia, which was totaled in the crash.

Joseph was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which sustained minor damage.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.

The Vermont State Police was assisted by the Shaftsbury Fire Department, Arlington Rescue, Green Mountain Power and Vermont Agency of Transportation.
