1 min read

BELLEFONTE, PA — The Centre County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scammers impersonating law enforcement officials in an attempt to obtain personal information and payments.

The scammers are calling local residents and claiming they missed jury duty and now have a warrant out for their arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the Centre County Sheriff’s Office will never ask for personal or bank account information over the phone.

The office does not accept payments via Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay or similar platforms, according to the warning.

Residents who need to make payments on a fine should do so only through the Probation Office in person or via their official website, officials said.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should not provide any personal information or make any payments, according to the sheriff’s office.

Residents should hang up immediately and verify by calling the Centre County Sheriff’s Office directly at 814-355-6803 or contact their local law enforcement agency.
