Man arrested on attempted murder charge in St. Albans

ST. ALBANS, VT — A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder following a shooting incident on Lake Road.

The St. Albans Police Department received an emergency call at approximately 7:49 p.m. on May 8 reporting that a person had sustained a gunshot wound during an altercation at a residence on Lake Road in St. Albans Town.

The victim was transported to Northwestern Medical Center by a private vehicle.

Officers from the St. Albans Police Department Patrol Division and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene, with assistance from the Swanton Village Police Department and the Vermont State Police.

Police located the gunshot victim, a person of interest and witnesses at separate locations in St. Albans.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at Northwestern Medical Center before being released.

Jeffrey S. Leclair, 28, of St. Albans, was arrested without incident.

Leclair faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, multiple counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of cruelty to a child.

Police determined the incident was isolated and that all parties involved were contacted.

A Vermont Superior Court judicial officer ordered Leclair held without bail prior to arraignment and imposed conditions of release at the request of the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Leclair was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility.
