Man arrested in assault in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A man has been arrested in connection with an assault that occurred Friday evening on the 300 block of Clinton Avenue.

On May 8, 2026 around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 300 block of Clinton Avenue near Henry Johnson Boulevard for reports of two injured individuals.

Upon arrival, officers located a 61-year-old male with stab wounds to his chest.

A few minutes later, officers located a 31-year-old male in connection with the assault in the area of Second Street and Lexington Avenue with a head injury.

Both individuals were treated by the Albany Fire Department and emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

Further investigation determined that the two males were involved in a physical altercation inside the residence on Clinton Avenue.

During the incident, George Delaughter, 61, of Albany struck the 31-year-old victim in the head with a hammer, resulting in the victim stabbing Delaughter.

A search warrant was executed by members of the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

During the search warrant, a hammer was recovered from inside the residence.

Delaughter has been charged with one count of Assault 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th.

He will be arraigned when he is medically cleared.
