Homestead man charged with homicide in Allegheny County

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A Homestead man has been charged with homicide and multiple other offenses in connection with a series of violent incidents on May 7.

At 9:39 p.m. on May 7, County 9-1-1 was notified of a female who was stabbed in the 700 block of Penny Drive.

The female, later identified as 45-year-old Jinx Hairston, was transported by private vehicle to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit initiated an investigation.

Through witness interviews, surveillance video, and additional information collected during the investigation, detectives identified 43-year-old George Mitchell II, of Homestead, as the person responsible for the stabbing.

Detectives were also made aware of a string of violent incidents on May 7, both before and after the homicide.

At 3:10 p.m., Eastern Regional Mon-Valley Police were dispatched to Bell Avenue in North Braddock for a female who reported she was threatened by a male with a gun.

The victim reported she was approached from behind by a male who grabbed her and held a gun to her head.

The male then proceeded to chase her around a parking lot while pointing the gun at her as she attempted to get away.

The victim was not injured.

Mitchell II was later identified as the suspect in this incident.

At 4:21 p.m., Penn Hills Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Dauntless Drive following reports of an individual attempting to carjack an elderly couple at knife point.

It was reported a male suspect approached each victim separately, holding a knife to their neck and demanding keys.

The victims were not injured.

The suspect dropped the keys at the end of the driveway and fled in a black Cadillac sedan.

Mitchell II was later identified as the suspect in this incident.

At 4:42 p.m., Penn Hills Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Sampson Street for an adult male and juvenile male that were struck by a vehicle.

The victims were working on a sewer grate near the road, when a black Cadillac sedan veered off the road and struck them.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

Mitchell II was later identified as the driver of the Cadillac sedan.

At 4:42 p.m., Wilkinsburg Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Doyle Street for a report of two juvenile females who were struck by a vehicle.

Wilkinsburg Police identified Mitchell II as the driver in this incident and subsequently filed charges.

At 7:33 p.m., Penn Hills Police were dispatched to the area of Lindberg Avenue and Laketon Road for an attempted stabbing.

The adult male victim reported he was walking in the 700 block of Penny Avenue when he was nearly struck by a black Cadillac sedan.

The driver of the vehicle then got out of the vehicle, approached the male, and attempted to stab him with a knife.

Mitchell II was later identified as the suspect in this incident.

After consultation with the district attorney’s office, County Police have filed multiple charges against Mitchell II to include homicide, aggravated assault, and robbery.

Mitchell II was denied bail and is in the Allegheny County Jail.
