Man arrested on multiple charges in Bangor

BANGOR, PA — Police arrested a man on terroristic threats and other charges after responding to a disturbance at a Sunoco station on May 6, 2026.

Officers were dispatched to the Sunoco at 113 Pennsylvania Ave for a report of a male causing a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Joseph Ponnett, 56, of Pennsylvania, who was visibly intoxicated.

Through investigation, police discovered Ponnett threatened bystanders and assaulted one person by throwing candy and striking them in the face.

While speaking with officers in front of the store, Ponnett reached into his pocket and attempted to destroy and hide a controlled substance by dumping it on the ground, according to police.

Ponnett was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, harassment and public drunkenness.
