LAPEER, NY — A 66-year-old man faces felony burglary and other charges after authorities say he entered a barn and had inappropriate contact with animals.
Walter A. Carman, of Lapeer, was arrested May 5 at 5:57 p.m. following an investigation that began the day before.
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a farm in the Town of Lapeer at approximately 10:04 a.m. May 4 for a suspicious person investigation.
The investigation determined that Carman had entered a barn on the property and had inappropriate contact with animals on multiple occasions, according to authorities.
Carman was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of sexual misconduct and animal cruelty.
He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Carman was arraigned May 6 at 8 a.m. through the Centralized Arraignment Process and released on his own recognizance.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Town of Lapeer Court.
