JAY, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a woman on domestic assault and DUI charges following a reported physical altercation on Loop Road on May 4, 2026.

Bella Carlos, 23, of Jay, was charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault and driving under the influence.

Police, along with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department and Newport Ambulance Service, responded to a report from residents that a man and woman were physically fighting outside a vehicle stopped on the roadway.

During the investigation, police determined Carlos had attempted to cause serious bodily injury to a household member by strangulation and had operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Carlos was taken into custody and brought to the Derby barracks for processing.

She was later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $500 bail with conditions of release imposed by the court.

Carlos is scheduled to appear in Orleans Criminal Court on May 5 to answer to the charges.
