Pedestrian killed in Lancaster

LANCASTER, PA — A 75-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in a convenience store parking lot Saturday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to Sheetz at 2425 Old Philadelphia Pike at approximately 1 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor-trailer.

Daniel Sweeney, of Gordonville, was walking from the gas pumps toward the front of the store when he was struck by the truck.

The tractor-trailer, driven by a 30-year-old man from Enola, was traveling east through the parking lot and had stopped for other vehicular traffic, according to East Lampeter Township Police Department.

After traffic cleared, the tractor-trailer proceeded forward and struck Sweeney, who was walking in front of the truck.

Sweeney succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lancaster County Crash Team #2, comprised of Manor and Hempfield crash investigators, responded to assist with the investigation.
