Firearm discovered at security checkpoint in Moon Township

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — County Police have charged a Butler County man after a firearm was discovered at the security checkpoint at Pittsburgh International Airport.

At 5:36 a.m. on April 20, Transportation Security Administration officers observed a loaded handgun within a passenger’s carry-on bag at the main security checkpoint of Pittsburgh International Airport and alerted Allegheny County Police.

County Police identified the passenger as Garrett Beattie, 43, of Cranberry Township, and determined Beattie did not possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Beattie is charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration up to $10,000.

Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
