KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Police are warning residents about fraudulent phone calls appearing to come from the department’s phone number.
The Kennett Square Police Department said it has received reports of scam calls that display the department’s number, 610-444-0501, on caller ID.
Police said the calls are not from the department.
Scammers can manipulate caller ID information to make it appear a legitimate source is calling, according to police.
The callers may attempt to obtain personal or financial information from residents.
Police are advising residents not to provide personal information, banking details or passwords over the phone.
Residents should not send money or gift cards to anyone claiming to be law enforcement, police said.
Police said residents should hang up immediately if a call seems suspicious.
