WARREN TOWNSHIP, NJ — Three men were arrested early Sunday after police say they attempted to break into an occupied home and fled in a stolen vehicle.
Warren Township police received a 911 call at approximately 4:10 a.m. March 29 from a resident reporting that individuals were actively attempting to gain entry into their home.
Responding officers located an occupied suspect vehicle at the scene, which was determined to be stolen.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it drove toward them, striking a police vehicle before fleeing at a high rate of speed.
Officers initiated a pursuit and deployed a tire deflation device, pursuing the suspect vehicle for several miles.
The suspect vehicle ultimately became disabled, and three occupants were taken into custody after attempting to flee on foot.
Jalen A. Cherenfant, 20, of Irvington, New Jersey, was charged with second-degree burglary by entering an occupied residence, second-degree conspiracy, second-degree eluding, third-degree receiving stolen property, and disorderly persons offenses for burglary tools and criminal mischief.
Lamont L. Crumbley, 21, of Irvington, New Jersey, was charged with second-degree burglary by entering an occupied residence, second-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree eluding, third-degree receiving stolen property, and disorderly persons offenses for burglary tools and criminal mischief.
Abdul W. Stewart, 19, of East Orange, New Jersey, was charged with second-degree burglary by entering an occupied residence, second-degree conspiracy, fourth-degree eluding, third-degree receiving stolen property, and disorderly persons offenses for burglary tools and criminal mischief.
The Bernards Township Police Department, Watchung Police Department, Long Hill Township Police Department, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and the New Jersey State Police Somerville Station assisted with the incident.
