COEYMANS, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on felony weapons possession charges following a traffic stop on the New York State Thruway.
William J. Herchenroder, 51, of Stuyvesant, was taken into custody at approximately 4 p.m. March 23, 2026.
Troopers assigned to SP Albany conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 BMW sedan after the license plate returned an expired registration.
Upon interviewing Herchenroder, troopers discovered he was operating the vehicle without a license and violating other vehicle and traffic laws.
During a vehicle inventory, troopers located a .22 caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Herchenroder was arrested for felony criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
He was processed at SP Latham and arraigned at Colonie Town Court.
Herchenroder was released following arraignment.
