Warrant payment phone scam reported in Middlesex County

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving fraudulent warrant payment demands.

Several residents have received unsolicited phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and stating that payment is required for an active warrant.

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office does not contact residents by phone to demand payment of any kind and will never request payment over the phone.

The only official notification a resident will receive regarding a warrant comes by mail on Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office letterhead.

These notices serve informational purposes only and will not request payment.

Residents with questions about this scam or any other suspicious activity related to the Sheriff’s Office may contact the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Division of Investigations at 732-745-4000 or the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 732-745-3271.

Residents are advised to consider blocking suspicious phone numbers and reporting unwanted messages as junk or spam.

Anyone who believes they are currently being victimized should immediately contact their local police department.
