PENN YAN, NY — A woman faces six counts of animal cruelty following an investigation that began in January.

Crystal Fiero, 43, of Penn Yan, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. March 4 at 227 Main Street, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies charged Fiero with six counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance under New York Agricultural and Market Law 353.

The charges stem from an investigation at a Town of Torrey residence where Fiero was found in possession of five dogs and a cat in unsafe and unsanitary living conditions, deputies said.

All six animals were seized and transported to the humane society for examination and care.

Fiero was issued an appearance ticket and released to appear in Torrey Town Court at a later date.
