WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Authorities have charged an Iselin man in connection with a fatal collision that occurred on February 18 in Woodbridge Township.
At approximately 10:36 p.m. that day, Woodbridge police responded to a report of a crash on Route 27 North near Deepa Auto Repair.
Upon arrival, officers found a 2013 Hyundai Tucson that had collided head-on with a 2025 Nissan Altima.
The Hyundai Tucson was driven by Silvino Ruiz Alonso, 28, of Iselin, while the Nissan Altima was driven by Amber Torres, 22, of Colonia.
A 21-year-old woman from Colonia, who was the front seat passenger in the Altima, and Ruiz Alonso both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Torres was transported to JFK Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to investigators, Ruiz Alonso was driving southbound in the Hyundai Tucson on the wrong side of the roadway when he struck the northbound Nissan Altima head-on.
On March 4, Ruiz Alonso was charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree assault by auto, and third-degree endangering.
Ruiz Alonso is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday, March 10.
The investigation is ongoing.
