YONKERS, NY — Two people were arrested after a high-speed chase ended in a crash early Tuesday morning, leading to the recovery of two handguns and a stolen vehicle.

A Westchester County Police Department officer was stationary alongside the northbound Bronx River Parkway at 1:44 a.m. when a BMW sedan passed at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle entered the Cross County Parkway westbound where the officer conducted a traffic stop.

When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver sped away and fled southbound on the Bronx River Parkway.

The BMW exited onto Bronx River Road, made a U-turn in a parking lot and struck two parked cars upon exiting.

The driver and a passenger jumped out and fled on foot in separate directions on or adjacent to the parkway.

Multiple Westchester County Police and Yonkers Police Department officers responded to the area along with an NYPD patrol car.

The driver was apprehended by NYPD and county police while the passenger was apprehended by Yonkers police.

Two handguns were found in the BMW, which had been reported stolen a short time earlier in the Bronx.

The driver and passenger, ages 18 and 21, are facing charges including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies.

The driver is additionally charged with fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle and reckless driving, both misdemeanors.

After arraignment in Yonkers City Court, the suspects were turned over to the NYPD.
