GREECE, NY — New York State Police arrested a Rochester man on drug and forgery charges following a traffic stop on Feb. 11.

Brian A. Lopez, 29, of Rochester, was taken into custody after a trooper observed his vehicle traveling southbound on State Route 390 without license plates at approximately 8:53 a.m.

The vehicle displayed what appeared to be a temporary in-transit permit affixed to the rear window, which was determined to be fraudulent upon investigation.

A records check revealed the vehicle had no valid registration on file.

Further investigation determined Lopez had multiple outstanding warrants out of New Mexico, with full extradition authorized, for a conditional release violation related to dangerous drugs.

During an inventory of the vehicle prior to impound, troopers located and seized approximately 1.9 grams of fentanyl packaged in multiple small bags, approximately 28 grams of suspected Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride Extended Release pills, approximately 151.2 grams of cannabis products including suspected THC concentrate, and a fraudulent New York State temporary registration document.

The fentanyl field-tested positive and, along with the suspected prescription stimulant, was submitted to the State Police Forensic Investigation Center for laboratory analysis.

Lopez was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument 2nd degree, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree, fugitive from justice, possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Lopez was processed at State Police Rochester and transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment.

New Mexico authorities confirmed they will extradite Lopez on the outstanding warrants.
