RUSSIA, NY — A 16-year-old died after a snowmobile crash on Feb. 2, 2026.
New York State Police responded to a report of a snowmobile crash near Riggerman Road in the town of Russia at approximately 7 p.m.
The operator has been identified as Rykah J. Lyons, 16, of Remsen.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a single snowmobile with one operator was traveling southbound on a secondary trail near Riggerman Road when the operator lost control.
The snowmobile veered off the trail and struck a tree, resulting in fatal injuries.
Lyons was pronounced deceased at the scene.
State Police were assisted on scene by North Star Ambulance, Remsen Fire Department and Barneveld Fire Department.
