Man arrested on contempt charges in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, NY — A man was arrested on multiple charges after officers found him in violation of an order of protection during a welfare check on Feb. 3, 2026.

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s First Platoon responded to a north-side address at approximately 12:20 p.m.

While on scene, officers determined that Raymond A. Gates Jr. was inside the apartment and in violation of an active order of protection requiring him to stay away from a female victim.

Officers further confirmed that Gates had an active felony warrant issued by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for Aggravated Criminal Contempt.

Officers made multiple announcements requesting that Gates exit the apartment.

After several minutes, Gates complied and surrendered without incident.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail.

Gates was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, and Aggravated Criminal Contempt in addition to his outstanding warrants.

He is being held at the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment.
