Man arrested on assault charge in Penn Yan

PENN YAN, NY — Jason M. Stephens, 42, of Penn Yan was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment after a police investigation into a physical domestic incident.

On Sept. 23, police responded to East Elm Street, where they found an injured woman lying in the roadway.

The victim suffered a bloody nose, an abrasion to her hand, and swelling to the back of her head.

During interviews with police, the woman stated that Stephens had punched her in the face and then fled the scene, leaving her on the ground.

The victim declined to cooperate further with police, and officers were unable to locate Stephens in the area or at his residence at the time.

On Jan. 28, police made contact with Stephens.

During an interview, he admitted to having a physical domestic altercation with the victim on Sept. 23, and said he shoved her, but denied punching her.

Stephens was taken into custody and transported to the Yates County Jail to await arraignment for the purpose of an order of protection.
