PENN YAN, NY — A Branchport man was arrested following an investigation into a harassment complaint involving a village resident.

Matthew J. Ellis, 34, was taken into custody by the Penn Yan Police Department on charges of aggravated harassment in the second degree and stalking in the fourth degree.

Police said Ellis allegedly engaged in repeated unwanted contact with the complainant, including appearing at the complainant’s residence, making phone calls and leaving voicemail messages, driving past the residence, and attempting third-party contact.

The complainant previously had an order of protection against Ellis and has repeatedly told him she does not want contact, according to police.
