OGDEN, NY — A Rochester man on parole for murder was arrested on driving while intoxicated and weapons charges following a single-vehicle crash Friday night.
Ralph A. Marrero, 50, of Rochester, was taken into custody after his vehicle struck a utility pole at Spencerport and Gillett Road at approximately 11:35 p.m. Jan. 16.
Marrero was not injured in the crash.
A 50-year-old female passenger was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Officer Ortiz Speed responded to the scene and suspected Marrero was under the influence of alcohol.
A roadside DWI investigation was conducted, including field sobriety tests.
Marrero was determined to be intoxicated and was taken into custody.
During a search of Marrero’s vehicle, a loaded and stolen Walther 9mm pistol was found concealed inside the vehicle.
The firearm had been stolen in New Jersey.
Marrero was transported to the Ogden Police Department for arrest processing.
He submitted a breath sample and his blood alcohol content was determined to be .13 percent.
Marrero was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, driving while intoxicated, DWI per se over .08 percent and speed not reasonable and prudent.
Marrero is currently on parole for murder in the second degree.
He was transported to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment in CAP court.
