BARNEGAT, NJ — Police investigated a reported threat to Barnegat schools after social media posts raised concerns among the community.

Administrators at Russell O. Brackman Middle School were notified Friday of a verbal inappropriate threatening comment reportedly communicated from one student to another.

Barnegat Police were immediately notified and conducted an extensive investigation.

The investigation confirmed there was no actual threat to student safety, according to the Barnegat Police Department.

Recent social media posts renewed concern based on the original situation.

Officers are working closely with school staff and determined there is no existing threat or safety concern in the schools.

Police asked anyone with new or helpful information to contact the department directly and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media.
