JAMESTOWN, NY — A man was arrested early Monday morning after police responded to a domestic dispute on the city’s south side.

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s Third Platoon were called to the scene at 4:11 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2026.

Police spoke with the victim upon arrival.

An investigation revealed that Anthony B. Vaas, 61, of Jamestown, placed both hands around the victim’s throat and applied pressure that impeded the victim’s normal breathing, according to police.

Vaas was located walking a short distance away and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Jamestown City Jail where he was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.

Vaas was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
