EAST AURORA, NY — A partial ceiling collapse at a theater Monday morning sent insulation falling onto dozens of elementary school students, though no injuries were reported.
East Aurora Police received a 911 call at 10:59 a.m. reporting the collapse at the Aurora Theatre at 673 Main Street.
Approximately 70 people were inside the theater at the time, including students and teachers from Northwood Elementary in West Seneca.
East Aurora Police and East Aurora Fire Department units arrived at 11:05 a.m.
Police determined an employee from a private contractor was installing insulation in the attic when he stepped off a catwalk.
The employee’s feet went through the ceiling, causing insulation and ceiling tile particle board to fall into the theater below.
Students sitting in the theater were struck by the falling insulation.
Six students were evaluated by EMS for exposure to the insulation.
The Town of Aurora building inspector was notified and responded to the scene.
All emergency units cleared the scene and returned to service at 11:52 a.m.
