2 rescued after canoe capsizes at Pittsburg lake

PITTSBURG — Emergency responders rescued two people from Third Connecticut Lake on Monday evening after their canoe capsized, leaving them in the water calling for help.

The rescue occurred at approximately 5:25 p.m. at the boat launch off Route 3, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.

The initial call was received via a 911 text alert reporting a possible drowning.

Responding agencies included the Pittsburg Police Department, Pittsburg Fire and Rescue, 45th Parallel EMS and New Hampshire State Forest Ranger Service.

Marine Patrol and New Hampshire Fish and Game were notified and stood by for assistance if needed.

A State Forest Ranger was among the first to arrive in the area and located two individuals approximately 200 yards from shore who were still above water.

Responding personnel subsequently launched a rescue boat and successfully reached the individuals, bringing them safely back to shore within minutes.

Both patients were evaluated on scene and transported by 45th Parallel EMS to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The Pittsburg Police Department thanked Pittsburg Fire and Rescue, 45th Parallel EMS, and the New Hampshire State Forest Rangers Service for their response.
