Woman charged with vehicular manslaughter after pedestrian dies in Malta

MALTA — Morgan D. Lange, 33, of Glenville, was charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree Sept. 24 after a pedestrian she struck with her vehicle died from his injuries.

Joshua D. Soden, 29, of Saratoga Springs, died Sept. 20 at Albany Medical Center from injuries sustained when he was struck and pinned under Lange’s vehicle in a Malta parking lot Sept. 8.

Lange surrendered to State Police at the Saratoga barracks, where she was arrested and processed.

She was arraigned at Malta Town Court and released on her own recognizance with a return date of Oct. 9.

The incident occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Sept. 8 in a parking lot on Hemphill Place.

Troopers responded to reports of a person struck and pinned under a vehicle.

Soden was removed from under the vehicle with assistance from the Malta Stillwater Fire Department and transported to Saratoga Hospital with serious injuries.

He was later transferred to Albany Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition before dying Sept. 20.

Lange allegedly attempted to remove and dispose of an open alcoholic beverage from her vehicle immediately following the incident.

She remained on scene and contacted emergency services.

Lange was initially arrested Sept. 8 on charges of vehicular assault in the second degree, tampering with physical evidence, driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations.

She recorded a 0.12% blood alcohol content during processing at the State Police barracks.

The investigation is ongoing in partnership with the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office.
