Wilton man arrested on felony domestic charges after incident

WILTON — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active domestic incident call Aug. 31 at 8:28 a.m. on Gordon Lane in the town of Wilton.

Investigation into the call led to the arrest of Joseph R. Norton, 40, of Wilton.

Norton was charged with aggravated family offense, criminal contempt in the 1st degree and criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, all class E felonies.

He also faces two counts of criminal contempt in the 2nd degree, class A misdemeanors.

Norton is accused of committing a specified offense under the statute having been previously convicted of a specified offense within the immediately preceding five years.

He is also charged with violating an order of protection by throwing a glass coffee mug into a living room window resulting in damage that exceeded $250.

Additionally, Norton is accused of violating the provision of an order of protection that forbade him from being in the presence of two of the people on scene.

He was arraigned before the Honorable Charles Sherman in the Saratoga Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings in the Wilton Town Court.
