Greece police arrest man suspected in multi-town forged check scheme

GREECE — On Thursday, Aug. 28, at approximately 12:38 p.m., Greece police officers responded to Tompkins Bank at 724 Long Pond Road for a report of a male attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

Officers detained the suspect, identified as Cody Thomas, 31.

After investigation, Thomas was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and attempted grand larceny in the fourth degree.

He was processed and transported to CAP Court for arraignment.

Thomas remains in custody at Monroe County Jail.

According to police, Thomas is suspected of committing similar offenses the previous day at multiple banks in Geneseo, Leroy, Caledonia, and other locations.

The Greece Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is working with law enforcement partners in the affected jurisdictions to coordinate the ongoing investigation.
