ALDEN — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation into a two vehicle crash in the Town of Alden on Friday, Aug. 22.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., the collision between a Honda SUV and a tractor trailer occurred at the intersection of Walden Avenue and Genesee Street.
The investigation has determined that the driver of the SUV, Carol Privitera, 80 of Amherst, was traveling eastbound on Genesee Street and came to the stop sign at Walden Avenue.
As the tractor trailer was traveling westbound on Genesee Street and continuing straight onto Walden Avenue with the right-of-way, the SUV made a slight left turn to continue onto Genesee Street.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Medical personnel from the Millgrove Volunteer Fire Department and Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene.
Privitera was placed in the back of an ambulance.
She was pronounced dead while en route to the hospital.
The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.
