MWA awards scholarships to 4 local graduates

NEWPORT –– The Memphremagog Watershed Association has announced scholarship recipients for 2025 graduates pursuing education and careers in sciences and environmental studies.

Four students received awards through the scholarship fund, which supports students whose high school studies and activities align with MWA’s mission to protect the environment and natural beauty of the Memphremagog watershed.

The recipients include:

Luke DeLaBruere of Derby, a Stanstead College graduate entering Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Josi Fortin of Newport Center and North Country Union High School, entering Middlebury College
Natalee Kneeland of Lowell and NCUHS, entering Middlebury College
Aine Remers of Montgomery Center and NCUHS, entering Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Funding comes from MWA membership contributions and community donations.

MWA acknowledged the community members and organizations cited by applicants as sources of inspiration and guidance, including teachers, family farms and neighbors, plus summer experiences through Governor’s Institute of Vermont, Northwoods Stewardship Center, Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, Missisquoi River Basin Association, Beta Technologies, Community College of Vermont, and NCUHS’s Galapagos Field Study Course.
