HANOVER — The Hanover Police Department responded to a call July 29 in the area of Merchants Row Mall for several motor vehicles that had their windows broken and personal items taken.

A follow-up investigation ensued and Hanover Police detectives made contact with members of the Massachusetts State Police Vehicle Crimes and Auto Theft Unit.

Through this follow-up, detectives learned that the State Police were surveilling the suspects that were believed to be involved in the Hanover incident.

Mid-morning on the same date, two suspects were arrested by the State Police.

Evidence from the Hanover incident was located.

In addition to the Hanover incident, the suspects are believed to be responsible for a spree of car breaks in various cities and towns in Eastern Massachusetts which took place over the course of several weeks.

The persons arrested are believed to be members of the “Felony Lane Gang.”

This group targets locations where they are likely to find a purse or bag left in a vehicle.

They typically will conduct “smash and grabs” at which time they break the window of a vehicle and proceed to steal purses, wallets and any other personal items.

They are known to frequent gyms, parks, beaches and daycares.

After breaking into vehicles, the perpetrators will use victim’s credit cards to make high end electronics purchases as well as purchase gift cards.

They will also use disguises to aid them in cashing checks from checkbooks that are taken.

They will typically use the outside lane at a bank drive-through which is why they are dubbed “The Felony Lane Gang.”
