Sheriff’s office investigates death after submerged vehicle found in Stuyvesant creek

STUYVESANT — Columbia County Sheriff Donald J. Krapf reports that the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death following the discovery of a submerged vehicle in Kinderhook Creek, off Lindenwald Avenue in Stuyvesant Falls.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, July 25, the Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and deployed the Mobile Command Center after receiving a report of a vehicle in the water.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Dive Team, with assistance from the Hudson Dive Team, located and recovered one individual from the water.

The individual, a male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.

Also assisting at the scene are the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Company, Valatie Rescue Squad, and the New York State Police.
